Now with the DVD release, I get to enjoy this brilliant
gem again. This time, I was joined by my guest for the
weekend, Drizzt. I will repeat a word he used a word to
describe it -- an endorsement with which I wholeheartedly
agree: "Genius."
It is entirely possible that it requires a certain type
of mind to appreciate this movie. (Read: Yes, we are
better than all the rest of you pathetic little numbskulls, and
we know it.)
It is a movie that has virtually no "story"
at all, so to speak, but it somehow manages to
encapsulate the entirity of human experience, roll it
up into a little bundle of scenes, and splatter it at
you nonstop for 99 minutes. It's an ever-energizing,
ever-engaging, continuously refreshing thing of beauty.
Pure candy for the intellect.
Richard Linklater is a genius. Definitely gonna have
to watch the commentary tracks. Simply amazing stuff.
Goodnight, world.
