A more complete rambling

Just what the world has always wanted: Another "complete" rambling. lol.
Where to begin?
"Where to begin? Your chronic absenteeism? Your unpresentable appearance? You're up for review."
But I digress.
Last night, I stopped in a Media Play on the way home in hopes of finding the recently released B5 DVD. To my horrified shock, they had apparently followed in the foolish footsteps of Best Buy, and did not have any copies. Not only that, but when I asked a sales guy about it, he appeared to have never heard the phrase "Babylon 5" before. Doh. So much that theory of "great selection" and "knowledgeable staff".
But, while I was browsing the section, one that I hadn't seen before jumped out at me. "Timmy!"
Yeah, I bought another South Park disc. Took it home, and after the double Buffy extravagaza and a little content collective ranting, I watched all 4 episodes on the disc, laughing heartily all the way. That brought Friday night's tally to nearly 4 hours of couch potatoing. Yipee.
Saturday morning. Lazy. Slept in until I didn't feel like sleeping anymore, and reveled in the experience. When I finally did get up, I made some attempts to straighten things up. It is amazing how messy things can get when one just lets it go for only a couple weeks, doing nothing but watching tv and playing video games every night. The life of a single geek slob somehow seems simultaniously pathetic and blissful. Since it's what I've got at the moment, I figure it's best to enjoy it to its fullest extent for what it is.
It. It's. It is. Its. Thank you, grammar police.
Random momentary tangent time. I'm digging the dance music channel. Totally hip. Totally trancing me out. Sometimes, the mind just connects with that vibe. When it does, it's a wonderful thing. For my own future reference, should I ever desire it: Artist: Chicane. Track title: Saltwater. Album: N/A (Single). Now that song is over. Moving on...
This morning, a slashdot banner prompted me to take the leap into something I've been thinking about trying for a number of months now: netflix. People at work who have had it since the beginning of time recommended it, but I was always like, "I can rent whatever I want at the Video Station and have it right away without waiting."
When living at the Louisville Compound, the Video Station was just at the threshold of how far I was willing to drive to rent a movie. Ever since moving to the castle lair, it's proven to be beyond that threshold for most occassions (or maybe I've just found enough other locally available entertainment to occupy myself -- entirely likely, actually). Since I refuse to rent from chains who condescend and insult their customers, it's time to find another choice.
So anyway, I went in, signed up for the free month, and started rating stuff so that my demographic could be properly assesed and appropriate recommendations made. It didn't take long for me to get like 30 movies in my queue. I don't know how many times I've been wandering around the aisles at Best Buy, see a movie, and think, "That looks interesting. I might want to watch it. But buy? Not without having seen it." But at Netflix, I click "Rent" with abandon, knowing that with a flat monthly bill, the worst that can happen is what I choose will suck, I send it back, and have to wait a few days for something else. Next week, I've got some Sopranos Season 1 coming. Ooh boy.
Afternoon: Met up with bouncing and parents, went for a walk in the pre-snow outdoors. Refreshing. Went over to mom's house for a while, and played a game of chess with dad there while bouncing and mom messed around with the old Super Nintendo version of SimCity (funny that there are still 3 generations of Nintendo systems operational in different residences of my immediate family). With both of us out of practice, the chess game quickly turned into a contest of who could make the most awful blunders and oversights to lose the game. When it came to the point of him winning by knight and a couple pawns (which would soon become queens), I conceded the game in the interest of time.
The initial plan had been to go to some steak house down in Denver that was supposed to be really good. But with the time of 19:30 approaching, I was considering bowing out on dinner entirely so that I could go home and prepare for phesting, although steak sounded really good. As a compromise, I suggested On the Border, which was much closer and probably quicker. Everyone thought that sounded good, so we went there.
Yum yum yum. We eat there at lunch from work sometimes, but I still haven't gotten tired of it. Fresh chips, spicey salsa, and tasty burrito. I even managed to satiate my dead cow appetite for the evening.
Toward the end of the meal, I attempted to call Jaeger using my mom's cell. (Apparently, not only is my own phone's reception non-functional in my apartment, but it also fails inside restaurants within the vicinity.) Communication was already difficult with the ambient noise level. When the wait staff decided to start shouting at the people at a nearby table (who wants to be shouted at on their birthday anyway?), conversation became nearly impossible. I gathered that Jaeger was uncertain about phesting due to the snowy weather.
We finished up with eating, and mom dropped me off at the castle in the go-cart (her normal car is in repairs), and I proceeded to assess the situation. With snow continuing to fall at an alarming rate, I concluded that phesting would be unlikely in the immediate future.
I cursed the snow, typed a little rambling, and found something interesting on IFC without really meaning to. "Go with the flow." I find it an amazingly lucky happenstance that that channel is available as part of the "bronze" package. Virtually all the other film channels are premium, pay extra deals (for stuff I'd rather just watch on DVD). But IFC is just a wacky mix of stuff you'd probably never even hear of otherwise. Some crap, and some really good. Now that I've discovered it, AT&T better not dare try to take it away. End plug.
Now, I sit and type this so-called content. My next activity will either be a film via DVD, some GameCube action, or sleep should a sudden wave of zombieness decides to strike. As of right now, I'm still in the caffeine zone. That may not last forever though.
So let's cut. That's a wrap.
