November begins

With each passing day, this set of rooms which I occupy feels more and more like "home". Now begins the first weekend spent here in the Castle Lair (official title: "Bitscape's Castle Lair") during which I don't have to worry about going back to the Louisville Compound to clean up trash, pack or unpack large volumes of crap, or wade through masses of junk on the floor just to get to my bed.
This weekend presents another set of challenges and opportunities.
Tomorrow:
- Turn in the first full month's rent, along with the errata checklist.
- Pick up the package that was delivered today in my absence. (More on that in a second.)
- Give Tobias a nice happy bath. He hasn't had one in weeks.
- Try to figure out what's going on with the post office. (also more in a second)
- Try out the facilities that come with this cool place. Hot tub, gym, etc.
- Acquire the requisite parts and resurrect Dagobah
- Maybe. Just maybe. Pick and prod at the Content Collective code. And patches. The Collective desperately needs some care.
The last three items, of course, depend on me not spending too much time watching films and downloading pr0n. Given the factors at hand, that might be somewhat of a challenge.
I have a UPS notice sitting next to my keyboard nagging at me. I know what's going to be in the package. Films. DVD format (duh). Several of them. You see, last week at work, we hard working engineers were presented with generous rewards for going the extra mile to meet a deadline. Gift certificates to Amazon.com. DVD shopping spree. Yipee!
(Yes, I have generally made it a point not to purchase things there due to their abuses of the patent system, despite it being a very well designed online store. But I'm certainly not going to refuse such a cool gift. No indeedy.)
I've got cable modem. I've got cable tv. Mosters Inc comes out this weekend. A must see. The One looks like it might be cool too. The brand new theater next to the mall has its opening day today. (I debate whether it will even be worthwhile to attempt going there tonight, given the massive crowds guaranteed to be clustering around the spot.)
All of these factors combine to battle against the concept known as "weekend productivity". So be it.
I went down to check my snail mail box tonight, since I always seem to forget to do it daily between walking from the car to the apartment. First lesson learned: This place gets a TON of snail mail spam. Fortunately, there is a trashcan conveninetly placed next to the array of mailboxes, so it is easy to dispense with junk before even carrying it up to the apartment.
I also noticed a more disturbing trend: I received several pieces of forwarded mail, each originally addressed to another member of the family. Since I distinctly recall that I made sure to check the "Individual" box on the Post Office's change of address form, I can draw two possible conclusions:
- All three of the other family members mistakenly wrote my address on their change of address forms, or...
- Some individual(s) at the U.S. Postal Service have royally screwed things up.
I'll leave it as an exercise for the reader to use Occam's Razor to figure it out.
Last night, Zan Lynx came over for a while and I showed him the new place. We watched an episode of Farscape that was being broadcast on the scifi channel (Season 2: The Locket; that marks first time I've actually seen an episode being aired on tv), followed by an exceedingly silly dvd he had brought along: Thumb Wars. Very, very, very silly. That's all I'll say.
I am now growing increasingly hungry, and what remains of the cans of chili I have been eaten over the past two nights doesn't seem very appealing. Perhaps I should add "grocery shopping" to the list of things to do this weekend.
Tonight though, I think I'll just go grab some fast food on the way to the movie. With that, I'll conclude this rambling.
P.S. I love this place! :)
