Taking shape

Today after another extended workday, I stopped by the Louisville Compound, and found that it is well on its way to becoming a ghost compound. Nobody was currently home. I haven't seen bouncing there since last weekend (not that I've spent a great deal of time there lately either). Mom hasn't totally moved out yet. She's going to hire some professional movers to handle her piano and other stuff.
I went into the old Lair, and found that the swamp has advanced a few more inches beyond the door, but nothing too drastic. On the floor, there were several boxes full of ancient stuff which I had dragged out from under the crawl space last weekend. I sorted through a little of it, started to prepare another offering to the god of the landfill, and decided to depart.
On the way home, I stopped at Wal Mart. My plan was to buy a toaster (necessary for proper preparation of bagels and english muffins), and a shower curtain. Once inside the store, I started to recall the many other items I noted last night that I would need. Wastebaskets, silverware, laundry detergent, a laundry basket, cups, hangars, etc. It's amazing how quickly one can run up a bill in excess of $100 just gathering up simple random household items.
I drove home, put on some Tori Amos, began to sort my new items into their places, and loaded up the dishwasher with its first load. (One must sanitize new items fresh from the store, especially when some of them come without any packaging whatsoever.) Started unpacking some of the boxes, with maximum efficiency.
I took out the camcorder and shot some footage of the current state of the place. I think it will be interesting to come back after a few months, or years, and see what things looked like when I first moved in.
I once again reached a redundant conclusion: I really ought to get some furniture. Besides some chairs, a couch, and a table, I'd like to get a real, honest to goodness bookcase. "Then my life will be so close to being complete." (Hoping I'm not becoming too much like I am Jack's character.)
Things are indeed starting to take shape around here. Tomorrow, my landline should be installed. I may be able to rig up some sort of temporary dialup access through work for a few days. We'll see.
I still haven't gotten around to checking out the gym and jacuzzi yet. I'd like to do that one of these days, but... so busy!
Right now, I'm dead tired, so I'm going to collapse in bed. Nighty night.
