Well, so far, four days have passed since the news of "out of this house by the end of the month" hit, and I've managed to get absolutely nothing done about it. Hmmm, I did inform my parental units of my decision, looked at a few online housing ads, and got my cancel dsl order in today. (Convenient, since I happen to get it through an employee service at work. Sucks to have to lose that, cause it's been working so great since the beginnig of the year.)

The wheels will get rolling. It's just taken me a bit to absorb it all, and a few days of reeling before taking action is natural. At least that's what I tell myself. Procrastination is a horrible thing, isn't it? Well, motivation will kick in soon, because it will simply have to. Very soon.

Meanwhile, my entertainment options for this evening / weekend are most abundant. I borrowed the Enterprise tape for this week's episode from a coworker, since I missed the airing of it Wednesday (not my fault; other people were watching tv upstairs on the only unit that gets UPN reception). That's option 1.

Stopped at Best Buy on the way home from work today, with a definite item for purchase in mind. Having fond memories from previous viewings of Citizen Kane, and fully convinced by IGN's review, I went to pick up a copy for myself. (Is there a single dvd that those reviewers don't like? That would be a rarity. One would almost suspect that certain movie compains might be paying them off, except for the fact that I almost never disagree with their reviews. Hmmm....)

Anyway, into Best Buy, I know exactly what I'm going for, so I'm cruising into the store, full speed past the cd section, on to the movies...

SCREEEEEEEECH! Breaks on the feet bring momentum to a grinding halt.

Reverse. [beep... beep... beep...]

Is that what I thought it was?

Yep. In the New Release section, the likeness of Tori Amos prominently displayed on the shelves. "This must be that 'upcoming' new album full of cover songs I heard them talking about on the radio a couple months ago."

I pick up a jewel case, and scan the back. Confirmed. But then...

Wait a sec. There's more than one. This one has a different picture on the front. Scan the back. Identical. Then there's more. 4 choices. Different cover pictures, but apparently identical in all other respects?

Hmmmm.... Choices, choices. Of course I was going to buy one of them. That's a given. But having to choose between 4 different album covers? What is this? Some sort of ridiculous marketing scheme to get the obsessed Tori fans to "collect" and trade the different varieties, like kindergarteners at a Pokemon tournament? (The answer: Yes, of course!)

Or perhaps it's some sort of bizarrely constructed demographic consumer survey. Use the statistical data about which cover picture sells the most to derive all sorts of info about the hapless consumers, find out their eating habits, sleep patterns, and even brainwaves. All of this, of course, as a prelude to the Great Brainwashing Campaign of '02, where all is absorbed into the Great Collective Consciousness, and no private thought is left unturned.

Ahem. Getting back on topic. I examined, compared, picked up one, put it down, picked up another, thought I had decided, and then changed my mind again. I finally ended up with what had been the Only Right Choice all along: The one where she's wearing the top with the words "Satan Worship" printed across the front. lol. What that may or may not say about me, I'll leave as an exercise for the reader.

Having made that life-altering decision, I quickly found the movie I originally came for (thank goodness the movie only had one cover design available, or I might have been at the store all night), and made my way to the checkout. Bringin out the plastic.

And now, over the speakers plays the music. Some of the songs are familiar, some are not. I can't really say whether I like it yet, since I've been typing this rambling instead of devoting full attention to the sound. If past Tori experience is any indicator, it will take several listens before I can form a real opinion. Even then, it may change.

Some of my long-standing Tori favorites are songs I didn't particularly care for the first few times I heard them. Good music is often an acquired taste. Let it seep into the consciousness, and appreciation forms and grows. Forms and grows. Such is the way of the music of Tori Amos.

Topic switch.

Tomorrow. I need to look at at least one place. I saw an ad earlier this week that looks like it could be promising. Gotta get off my ass and get going though. Yes indeed. But tonight, relax and party. A plan is formed. lol.

Let us conclude this rambling with a classic prayer.

Our Tori
Who art in my cd player
Hollowed by thy voice
Thy new release come
My car shall fly across Earth as if it were from Heaven
Give us this day more college radio
And forgive those who program mainstream radio
As we forgive those who blast us with Country "music"
And lead us not into egotism, but deliver us into bitchiness
For thine is the voice and the attitude that we shall worship forever
Amen
