Yadda yadda. Quickie here, given that it might be nice to get a teensy bit of sleep before tomorrow.
Got home from work today. Checked email. Heard a rumor via email that Jaeger might show up at the compound during the evening. Haha.
I then sat back, and played around with the audio options on my Mononoke disc. Tried watching in Japanese with the direct English translation subtitles (as opposed to the English dialog subtitles, which are also available). I have to admit that the Japanese audio probably does fit the characters a bit better, although I think hearing it in English is easier for my brain to process. I've heard that some true anime purists consider English dubs tantamount to pan-and-scan in its level of desecration of the art. I guess I'm not at that level when it comes to anime.
Watched The Cell. Midway through the movie, mom brought in a bunch of spaghetti which appeared to be from Italy. Yum. The rest of the family proceeded to watch some random broadcast channel in the living room, and I returned to my lair to resume The Cell.
Quite the wild trip of the movie. Definitely better to be watching in one's own than in a theater with scratchy film, crackly sound, and noisy idiots all around. Much better. :)
Toward the end of the movie, I received a voice communication confirming Jaeger's arrival. Excellent timing. Just after The Cell finished, and I had begun to dig into the supplementary material, he arrived, and as expected, was carrying a copy of Alien 3 rented from the greatest of great rental stores, The Video Station.
We exchanged various random ideas, watched the rest of the Style As Substance featurette which was in progress when he had entered, and proceeded to view Alien 3.
A grim and freaky movie. During the opening credits, I noted with a bit of glee and surprise that Lance Henrickson was in the cast, and David Fincher was the director. Of course, when I saw it many, many years ago on VHS, I would never have recognized either of these names. I think the movie itself would have made slightly more sense had I seen the first two previously.
Prior to tonight, Jaeger and I seemed to be have non-intersecting Alien movies which we had each seen. He had seen the first two, which I had not. I have seen Alien 3 and Resurrection, although my previous viewing of Alien 3 might not truly "count" since it was a pan and scan version.
After the movie, we watched all the trailers and the documentary, talked about the upcoming millenial party and fest, etc.
I lent Jaeger my season 1 X files pack, so he doesn't get too excessively bored during his break from school.
Jaeger departed, and after an evening filled with quality home cinema, I really ought to be getting a little sleep. Sometime soon. Like now. Alrighty then. Night.
