Day to chill

Heehee. ;)

This morning I woke up at the wee hour of 0900. Played, or attempted to play, a little Quake 3. Decided my brain was way too foggy for that kind of coordination. Started playing Railroad Tycoon 2. Brain too foggy to make up any intelligent strategy decisions either. Back to bed.

Woke up again at the more reasonable hour of 1150, feeling rested and potentially alive. Much better. I wanted to get to the bank before they close at 1300 to deposit my expense check. (For some reason, I don't trust ATM deposit thing as much. It gives me cash fine, but I prefer to put my checks, on the now rare occassions when I receive such things, to a real clerk.) I thought I'd make it an all-in-one trip, and pay several little bills at the same time.

Threw in a load of laundry, dragged my heels for a few, took longer than expected to examine my first Verizon bill (their accounting is somewhat wierd, but it makes a certain degree of sense after you stare at it long enough; BTW, taxes suck), wrote several checks, entered each transaction into gnucash on Argo, threw some jeans and shoes onto my unshowered body, and jumped into Tobias to make it to the bank drive-up 5 minutes before close, and then swung by the post office on the way back.

Next, I guess, comes the shower.

Yesterday, I have decided, should be known as the day Bitscape became the magnet for stupid little technical fuck ups. There was work -- one big long series of technical fuck-ups rolled into one. There was getting home -- DSL outage. There was the theater -- projection and sound system in an otherwise stellar establishment totally fucked up. At least Tobias and Argo continued to work properly. (Note to self: Name personal devices after animal characters in XWP to protect them from being struck by plagues on official technical fuck up days.)

Speaking of which.... I've been so out of touch, I'm not ever sure if the season premiere is this week or next week. Of XWP, I mean. I know Andromeda begins a week from Sunday. (Absolute must-see most promising new show of the fall; How can it go wrong? Created by Gene Roddenberry to draw in all the Trek fans, and starring Kevin Sorbo to attract the mythology crowd. And based on the promos I've seen, it looks quite impressive.)

Well, I guess I'll just have to watch tonight to find out, since my precious net access is dead for the foreseeable future. Last night, when I called tech support, they actually didn't give me the Covad ticket number. They said they were having trouble opening it, and would call me back. No call back yet, so today I tried calling when I got back from the bank. It turns out their Covad login had the password changed, and RMI has been unable to open trouble tickets for the past day. Ick. One stupid password, and they're out for 18 hours? Something sounds fishy here. Oh well. I await the next promised call back.

And on a slightly lighter note, you know your DSL line has been down too much when you start to recognize the names and voices of the tech support people on the other end of the line. Too crazy. Before long, I'll probably be well acquainted with their entire staff.

Well, my senses are telling me that if I go much longer without showering, strange organisms might start sprouting where they aren't wanted. And I might like to visit a retail outlet or two over the course of the afternoon. So...

I shall now chill.
