More DVD fun

Today I watched the commentary track from Practical Magic, with Denise Di Novi (producer), Griffin Dunne (director), Sandra Bullock (does anyone not know what she does?), and Alan Silvestri (composer). After that, I watched the director's commentary on Interview with the Vampire from Neil Jordan.

I decided that it is probably a foolish idea to follow a nearly un-toppable masterpiece such as Interview with a less grand movie such as Practical Magic -- still a good movie in its own right, but sure to be an anticlimactic experience when viewed in that order. The viewer's palette becomes spoiled, expectations raised to too great a level. In fact, by surrounding myself with all these cream of the crop DVD releases lately, I'm worried that I might make it difficult to go back to watching normal movies. ("normal" being defined as anything less than stellar perfection in every aspect of the production.)

Here's an idea: Maybe I should go out and watch Battlefield Earth, if for no other reason but to enhance my appreciation of every other movie in existence. (Having not seen it first hand, I don't know for certain, but based on everything I've heard from people who have seen it, that statement probably isn't much of an exaggeration.)

Ah well. Nothing much else to say right now. I guess I really am turning into a couch potato, home movie junkie. The DVD medium seems to have that effect on some people. :)
