A lil post-megafest rambling

If trends continue, this week could see more ramblings entries than any in history. We'll see. (Another possible idea I had after the fest was to make a program that would average all my ramblings and calculate all sorts of stats such as average length in bytes, words, and paragraphs, and also check times and determine average wpm over an extended period, and maybe a few other fun but completely useless things. My sample size is now getting to the point that it could yield a fairly accurate picture. Of course, I'd have to either correct or ignore ramblings posted in CST/CDT that to this day have the inconsistent handling of the timezone change.)
I discovered that my keyboard repeat rates magically fixed themselves upon rebooting. Must me some kind of hardware handshake or something that happens when the machine powers up, and hotswapping input devices doesn't allow such things to be reinitialized. Of course, that's just my uneducated guess. I'm glad it's at a more reasonable setting again.
What I'm finding amazing right now is the fact that I'm still awake enough to be entering this. It must just be momentum carrying me on, cause I know my body and brain are both dead exhausted.
Jumping back to a previous tangent, it just occured to me that it might be fun to also make something to display a graph of the number of ramblings per week over an extended period. I'm thinking there would certainly be some pits during last summer and maybe fall, the prior spring having a generally high value with some big spikes. As I recall, Jaeger was once implementing something similar for a Mysql database at ucollege.edu waaaay back when. Hmmmm.
Thinking on the past 24 hours, I can't help but wonder if anyone present at the fest had read my ramblings entries from yesterday afternoon. I suspected Jaeger might have, since he often does, but I didn't feel like inquiring. Nor do I feel like examining my logs. Maybe I'd just as soon not know. To insanity, and beyond!
My fingers are finally getting used to the repositioned nav keys above the arrows. I seldom use them when I'm in vi, since it's just so much easier to use the hjkl/ctrl-f/ctrl-b/i/x/0/$ for similar functionality, but Netscape does not have such bindings available for use during ramblings entry. A pity. Perhaps that could be an argument in support of making an alternate entry mechanism for the fabled next version of Bitscape's Lounge. To get similar time functionality, I'd need a perl script to wrap around vi and remember when it was called, and when it exits, then submit contents of the editing session, saved by default in a temp file somewhere, into the database. Such a system is worth further consideration.
Ok, now I really am yawning, which I take as a good sign. As such, I suppose I'll put these semi-coherent expressions of consciousness to rest.
