Although there's been more than enough material on Slashdot over the past couple days to warrant it, this is not going to be YAWRAMIEC (Yet Another Wandering Rant Against the Military-Industrial-Entertainment Complex). Thank goodness. :)
So last night, what did I do? Something so useful as programming? No. Read a bunch more articles on how the corporate institutions are going to destroy the last bit of decency left in humanity? Not a chance. So what did I do? Tested out the new Civ:CTP 1.2 update in a long, drawn out quest for world domination, of course!
As proud leader of the Welsh, I, Grape Juice, spent many a century amassing my empire. With the renaissance age approaching, running behind rivals in both technology and size, I made peace with the Portugese swine which inhabited the territory to the west, scrambled to build settlers, and proceeded to colonize the continent to the east. I completed the philosopher's stone, and conducted many negotiations with other world powers to bring myself up to speed in scientific advancements. Then, after I finally managed to discover gunpowder and cannon making, I proceeded to put together an invasion force to drive back the annoying Portugese. After conquering three of their nearest cities by 1600 AD, it was past 0700 MST, and my eyes were about to fry, so I conceded to physical constraints, saved, and went down for sleep.
When I awoke some time after 1500, I was pleasantly greeted by an email from my contact at eSoft. I'm going back in for another interview tomorrow. :)
:)
This, of course, means I'm going to have to attempt to reverse the nocturnal cycles I seem to have reverted to since last weekend. Since I'll have to get up tomorrow morning to drive my dad to work, which will free up the car for my use, then prepare for the interview, hope it goes well, and return to pick him up again in the evening, I shall attempt to get some kind of sleep tonight, difficult as that may be. It wouldn't do to even be slightly drowsy during such an important occasion.
So now, having expended my moderator points, I think I'll read a bit more of the Slashdot content that was posted while I slept, regroup my troops for the next phase of the Portugese war, and try to catch the new episodes of Buffy and Angel tonight. Life in these times really ain't so bad. :)
