Alrighty. My sleeping patterns are finally returning to something resembling normal. Down around 0200, up at 1020. I think this is the first time I've gotten more than 4 hours straight since the multinight fest-turned-mega-turned-solo fest. Well, maybe I did Friday night. I'm actually not sure.

Last night Jaeger and Humblik dropped by for a final visit before their return to ucollege.edu. Shortly after their arrival, I made my way downstairs to watch the Mythology Shows. (Mythology Shows being defined as "Xena: Warrior Princess" and "Hercules: The Legendary Journies") I drifted in and out during the commercials as Jaeger and Humblik played Magic, and bouncing did various things on Scully.

After the Hercules teaser, Jaeger inquired as to which "lame fantasy show" I was watching now, and correctly implied that it would be possible for me to record and watch it later. A lousy host, I was being. <sigh/>

Slightly put off by the derogatory remark, I didn't return for the remainder of the proceedings. (You insult my show, you insult me, dammit! ;) I once read somewhere that geeks develop strange attachments to certain tv shows (Star Trek being the most common) which normal people would view as bizarre. It must be so.) Jaeger and I exchanged brief words before he left, he invited me to an irc fest tonight, and that was the end of it.

I was slightly regretful that I hadn't taken Jaeger's advice from the beginning of the evening (it had crossed my mind prior to their arrival). What I never bothered to mention was that not only were the shows easily tapable, but they were reruns. Not only were they reruns, but I had already made archival copies from the first airings. So, the only possible benefit that could have come from recording them last night might have been the slightly improved reception quality over that of several months ago.

So, the obvious question: Why? Obvious, the answer was not. I thought about it at some length last night, and came up with a few ideas.

  1. Small talk generally bores me. It's a necessary evil, I guess, but there seemed to be an excess of it at this particular gathering.
  2. Maybe I have drifted apart from this circle of friends. Of course I have, not being around them daily anymore.
  3. It's the Mythology Shows. I mean, come on. Isn't that sufficient reason enough, even if it is a rerun, etc etc etc? :)

Oh well. So much for that. I think I'll go get some breakfast and see what I can do in the way of fulfulling that first New Year's Resolution.
