Bitscape's Lair

In a blur

I woke up this morning at about 1030 feeling like something the dog coughed up. My first final wasn't until 1300, so I had a couple hours to mess with perl scripts and play solitaire before venturing to the hall of judgement. Actually, I wasn't too terribly worried about this first one. It was in Investments, and I think I did well on most of it except for a few questions I was totally clueless about. That's what skipping class and not reading the textbook does to ya.

Tomorrow at 0730 is the dreaded systems presentation. My group still hasn't met. I'm not even sure we're going to. If we don't, we'll probably just divy up the B.S. time and make it up as we go. That was the theory last I heard, anyway. We're supposed to dress up. Yuck. The one comforting thought is that one way or another, it'll be all over in around 12 hours.

Last night (or this morning) I stayed up until 0300 working on my CD Corner scripts. I got a primitive, partially functional (as far as planned featurs go), content-less version on the publicly viewable page. That felt good. Today, I worked on making sure the lyrics get formatted properly when they're displayed. The tests I ran showed it to be displaying as expected -- after a couple hours of tinkering with the regexes. Pretty soon, it'll be time to start focusing on the reason I started making CD Corner in the first place: Content.

I'm still floundering and agonizing over the decision of where to go to school next year. It seems that every time I start thinking about it, my mind gets stuck in an endless feedback loop. Time to decide is running out. Maybe I should flip a coin. :)

Sometime in the near future, I think I'm gonna have to look into using Modperl for my dynamicly generated stuff. Last night, I found myself, on multiple occasions, impatiently waiting for pages to load between tweaking the scripts. Up until now, I haven't thought at all about that kind of optimization. Since the vast majority of all my new content is dynamic, this might be the time.

OTOH, the publicly-available version of this page will be moving over to bitscape.festing.org in a few days, so maybe it's not worth worrying about right now. I wonder if Jaeger will still think this is a good idea when he finds out how much site-specific crap I've got going here. Besides all the MySQL and the http authenticated pages, there's the various perl modules I've downloaded and installed to get all these strange little features to work. Oh well, I'm sure we'll figure something out.

I think I'll go back to working on content in the CD Corner section for a while.
