Bitscape's Lair

You have wandered into the realm of Bitscape, a small collection of bytes tucked away in this endless expanse of data that is the world wide web. If, by some tiny miracle of trivial serendipity, you choose to stay and poke around here, rather than visit any of the thousands of other oases of knowledge which abound in these territories, you'll learn a little bit about the life, interests, and musings of this one college student in Lincoln, Nebraska.

I've just gotta post this now. An internal empire memo which was leaked, and given the title The Halloween Document by ESR, has now been confirmed by Microsoft to be authentic. This is it, everybody. The battle lines are drawn.

On one side, we have the rebels, who refuse to submit to life under the control of a totalitarian dictator. They would rather die than give up their freedom; they would sooner watch their hard drives be vaporized than be forced to use the instrument of evil which has been passed off as an operating system.

On the other, we have massive ranks of storm troopers, mercinaries, and attack vessels. Their goal? To rule over everything and everyone in the known universe. They have demonstrated their willingness to use any means available to further this goal, including deception, false promises, glitzy promotions, and FUD.

To this end, the empire has been largely successful. It has laid waste to countless organizations whose proprietors did not have the resources, will power, or moral courage to defend thenselves against the onslaught. Besides lacking strength of force, these victims fell because their motives were impure to begin with. In fact, they were little better than those who followed the Dark Side, for their hearts were driven by greed and selfish ambition, and as a result, they faltered and fell.

Out of this time of darkness, just when all efforts to stop the beast seemed in vain, a new hope was born.

Oops. Gotta go. Well, you know the rest of the story anyway, right? Good.

Ok, finally split all my movie log entries into separate files. The next step will be to put them into a searchable database. One of these days, I think I'll install and see if I can figure out mysql. My goal: By the end of the school year have all content on my page dynamically generated. This is gonna be a fun challenge.

The Mute project is underway. If all goes well, we'll have a working demo before too long. Now, if I could only figure out all that stuff Travis did with the events... Corba is an amazing thing.

Just saw several of last season's Voyager episodes. Pretty good stuff. Seems they've improved the writing quite a bit since I quit watching during the second season. I suppose it also helps to be watching with other people who have a devoted interest in the show.

Also saw the new DS9 and EFC episodes. I think that DS9 episode was the most entertaining baseball game I've ever watched. (Not like I go out of my way to watch many, as my family members will attest to.) EFC was cool. I really like how that show is shaping up. Ahh, the wonders of good sci-fi television.

Well, now I'm off to play with GIMP for a few minutes before going to bed.

Well, here it is, the long awaited web page is finally up. My movielog is a huge mess, but so is everything else these days. Maybe I'll just post it "as is" and anyone who tries to read it can just live with it. It's getting so huge that I'd like to separate the individual entries into separate html files, and eventually, when my still miniscule knowledge of perl evolves a bit more and I learn SQL, put them into a searchable database. That's still a ways off though.

Now that the skeleton code and layout for this web page is finally laid down, I'll have to spend some quality time with Gimp one of these days and breathe some real life into it. :) The other thing I need to do is add a links section. Although I guess that can wait a bit. After all, I wouldn't want to be sued by these fools.
