Bitscape's Lair

So much caffeine I'm practically drunk

A most joyous fest is underway. In the past 4 hours, I would estimate that I've consumed approximately 1.5 liters of Mountain Dew, 8 oz of coffee, 4 oz of Bawls Guarana, and 3 Penguin Peppermints (including the two I dropped into my coffee).

Bouncing dropped in via irc during the first few minutes of the fest, and he, Jaeger, and I had a few interesting moments of chatting. Jaeger sits at Defiant making graphics for Neelix's binary clock, and Neelix himself has happily been coding away with great success at Kes, his Be workstation (at least on good days, when he chooses to boot to Be instead of the sorry excuse for an OS whose name we shall not mention). For my part, I have been working happily away the new links engine (MySQL-based, of course) for Bitscape's Lair. This is truly a wonderful fest. Everybody is in good spirits, highly productive, and caffeinated to the max.

Right now, Neelix's Christmas music cd is playing. Despite the fact that it's totally out of season, I must admit that it makes for very relaxing and enjoyable festing music.

A brief rundown of events of the previous day: My finals went as well as could be expected. I was predictably clueless about math. I actually found the test an interesting challenge. Since I've pretty much accepted and gotten past the depressing feeling of being a total flunkigizer, I was able to sit with relative peace and attempt to work out problems I had no idea how to do. I think with most of them, I was actually somewhat successful.

Upon returning from the math test, I surfed the web for a few minutes before going back to bed, where I slept until the public speaking final. It actually caught me off guard. Being the diligent student that I am, I skipped the last class period to watch Babylon 5, and so missed the speech we were supposed to take home and read for the final. I was also unaware that the test would be open-book, so I didn't have my book there to look stuff up. Despite this, I think I performed adequately enough to maintain my B grade. A fitting end for what amounts to a joke of a semester in the academics category.

After slightly running over the two hour allocated time for finishing the final, I proceeded to supper, where I joined Neelix, Jaeger, Bryce, and Daniel at a table. Neelix proposed we'd watch a movie (Ok, I said brief, so brevidy *= 3), and Jaeger, Neelix and I ended up going to the student center and watched Brave New World. We were then joined by Rose to watch The Princess Bride.

Brave New World was really good. The kind of movie I wish they'd make more of. An excellent commentary on our modern pleasure-seeking society. Great satire. The Priceess Bride was also amusing, although I don't think I was nearly as enamored with it as Neelix and Rose were.

We then proceeded to prepare for the fest which is currently underway. And now I shall get back to coding. I think if I'm efficient, I'll have a working version of the new links stuff online by the time the sun comes up. Here goes...
