Lot'sa gaming last night

Submitted: Thursday, April 15, 1999 11:09

After last yesterday's little library escapade, by the time my brain had had enough time to phase back into reality while I worked (and typed that last little entry here), I realized that I hadn't eaten anything all day. The local food facilities all being closed, I decided to go to DaVinci's, a nice little Italian joint about a half block away.

It had been raining and very windy all day, so by the time I arrived there, I was dripping wet. The restaurant was nearly empty, save one family, so I was quickly served fettucini by a very pretty and charming waitress.

When I left the restaurant, full and happy, it was raining even harder. By the time I got back to ph409, I was soaked. I tinkered around with Enlightenment for another half hour, and went to chess club at 21:00. Jaeger and I were the only ones there, and neither one of us had a board, so after waiting a few minutes for someone to show up, we began a double-blind game where we each had to envision the board in our heads and call out our moves.

Eventually, Neelix arrived with his board, and we transferred our game to the physical realm. Bryan and Natasha arrived soon after, and they and Neelix began playing Magic. Jaeger pulled ahead of me in the chess game, and nearly checkmated me, but I managed to pull off a surprise victory when he left his king unguarded long enough for me to move my queen in for the checkmate.

After that, the chess gathering completely transformed into a Magic: The Gathering gathering. (no typos there). Neelix and Natasha decided to conclude their never-ending game in the interests of time. We played a pair of duels, and felt like continuing, but 2300 was quickly approaching. That meant curfew. So, the four male players migrated to ph409, where we played two rousing two-on-two games. Everyone was in good spirits, and although we realized we would likely regret our actions the next day, it was too much fun to stop. Bryan and I were victorious against Jaeger and Neelix both times. When it was all over, the time was nearly 0200.

Despite the late bedtime, I did make it to class this morning, albeit 10 minutes late. Can't really say I regret it though, because those were some great games.

Java class was cool this morning. We started working with JBuilder doing GUI stuff. I actually got a very premature tic-tac-toe board thingee to work. Unbelievable. Theory: Perhaps coding is best done when one is just a little tweaked from lack of sleep. If this is the case, it might explain why Festing can work by so productive under the right circumstances.

I think I'll quit hogging this microlab console now. I just thought of an idea. I should add a field to random ramblings to indicate where the entry was created, since it seems quite a number of these have been from various microlab consoles. Well, for what it's worth, this entry is being typed from station L25 in the microlab. That's all now.
