The Princess of Toronto

Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, there lived a beautiful princess who loved to sing. Her name was Maddie. She loved singing so much that she would travel around the whole world singing. Millions and millions of people would listen to her, for she had a very beautiful voice. Boys and girls like you would come from all across the countryside to listen to her music.

But singing wasn't the only thing she could do. She was a very good dancer as well. In fact, she danced so well that many people became jealous of her. They would watch her sing, and they would watch her dance, and they would see how much people loved her, and they would say, "She's too lucky. She shouldn't have such a beautiful voice and be able to dance so well. Besides, look at her. She's so pretty. And she has so many nice things. Nobody should have that many good things. It just isn't fair!"

And so, they would go home to their loving mommies and cry and cry and cry until they couldn't cry anymore. Then they would tell all their friends what a bad person Princess Maddie was. They would use words that we aren't allowed to say here when they talked about her. Some of them even made people who used to like her believe that she was evil. Word traveled throughout the land. People everywhere were talking about what a bad lady the princess was.

One day, Princess Maddie was going to sing in a city called Toronto. But there was trouble ahead. Before she started singing to all the people, the police told her that she could not dance like she wanted to dance while she sang. She would have to dance the way they wanted her to dance. She did not want to dance the way they wanted her to dance. She said that if they would not let her dance they way she wanted to dance, she would not sing either. They told her they would arrest her and put her in jail if she danced the way she wanted to dance.

But the princess was brave. She knew that if she could not sing and dance the way she wanted to, she would not be happy. So she sang and she danced, and she sang and she danced, and she sang and she danced some more. The police watched her with dark frowns on their faces. The people of the city of Toronto loved to see her singing and dancing.

The police knew that the people loved to hear her and watch her. They became afraid of what the people would think of them if they arrested her and put her in jail. So they did not arrest her and they did not put her in jail. She was free to roam the world and sing and dance wherever she pleased.

After a time, she got tired of singing and dancing. She took a vacation and did other things. But after she had rested, she was ready to sing and dance again.

Can you guess what the first place where she sang and danced again was called? That's right! Toronto. And the people there loved her even more than before, and they all lived happily ever after.
